Avatars are used from Gravatar service, its a special machine algorhytm which does create image from your email hash.
Its unpredictable which picture you will get.
You have 2 ways to change your avatar
1) change your email, another hash == another picture
2) register on https://gravatar.com and upload whatever you want to be used as avatar for your email address.
Gravatar avatars are used in comments for almost all WordPress-based sites,
and not just them.
Oh! Oh! I know: … or you can do a thing so that I can change the avatar by uploading, and not bother me with additional registration or creating an email.
