Changing loop.php depending on where it is called from

I would like to make changes to the loop.php file.

For normal searching and displaying of latest posts, I want the loop.php to remain as is.

I would like to add to the file that if it is being called from the homepage (set to display latest posts) that I can customize the loop coding.

What would I need to add to the loop file to insert the special code if called from the homepage?
